Site Outage on 13th February 2010

Many customers will have noticed that Bid for Wine was offline for a portion of Saturday 13th February. You may also have received emails about bids/sales/watched lots which relate to closed auctions.

Bid for Wine is hosted on a 100% guaranteed uptime basis (so service should never be interrupted). However, yesterday our web-hosts experienced a service outage which necessitated them temporarily taking the site down. They then mistakenly set up a temporary copy of the site using a snapshot of data from last week. In consequence all automatically generated emails were sent out based on auctions running on the site at the time the snapshot was taken and were therefore incorrect.

We have now resolved the issue and Bid for Wine is functioning normally again. I am also able to confirm that all data is safe and no auctions were affected. However if you would like me to extend the deadline of your auction to replace the lost exposure to potential buyers during the outage please do let me know.

Please be assured that I will be working with our web-hosts over the next few days to ensure this situation does not and cannot occur again.

My sincerest apologies for any inconvenience the interruption to our service may have caused and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, queries or would like further information.

  1. Thanks for a very speedy resolution to the issues yesterday, much appreciated and great to see the personal touch. A proactive, customer based resolution is very rare these days, well done.
